Birsie Beanny - Nostalgia colourway

The wait is over... the official beanie pattern for Shetland Wool Week 2026 has been released! 

The pattern was designed by Helen Robertson and is called the Birsie Beanny.

The beanie itself is knit in the round, you can use double pointed or circular needles, with 4ply fingering weight wool. The design features techniques including twisted rib, stranded colour work and crown shaping. It may appear daunting to a beginner knitter but treat it as a challenge. It should be quite straight forward for intermediate and advanced knitters. But remember... every knitted project is achieved in the same way, one stitch at a time.

The pattern is available via the Shetland Wool Week Website and costs £2.50.

This kit is for the 5 colour version called 'Nostalgia' using Jamieson's of Shetland 4ply Spindrift yarn. 

The official Nostalgia colourway uses Foula Wool yarn, this kit has matched the colours using Spindrift yarn.

This Kit contains:

• 6 x 25 gram balls of Jamieson's of Shetland Spindrift yarn
• 1 x Leather 'Handmade with love' label
• 2 x McIntosh's toffees
• 1 x pair of Hairy Coo stitch stoppers

Needles and pattern not included.

This is the official Jameson's of Shetland colourway. However, there is an impressive range of colours available to choose from in the Jamieson's of Shetland Spindrift range so if these colours are not to your liking send an email to james@joyofyarn.co.nz and we can make up a special kit for you using different colours.
