The wait is over... the official beanie pattern for Shetland Wool Week 2026 has been released!

The pattern was designed by Helen Robertson and is called the Birsie Beanny.

The beanie itself is knit in the round, you can use double pointed or circular needles, with 4ply fingering weight wool. The design features techniques including twisted rib, stranded colour work and crown shaping. It may appear daunting to a beginner knitter but treat it as a challenge. It should be quite straight forward for intermediate and advanced knitters. But remember... every knitted project is achieved in the same way, one stitch at a time.

Four 'official' colourways are shown in the pattern and the colourway using Jamieson's of Shetland Spindrift yarn is called 'Sea Anemone'

We have made up kits for the Sea Anemone colourway, using the actual colours along with kits for the 'Heddery Hills' and 'Nostalgia' colourways, where we have colour-matched Spindrift colours.

You can view the Kits here...

With 150 colours of Spindrift currently in stock you can also create your own unique colourway.

Issue 8 of the Journal of Scottish Yarns has arrived!

This issue features nine stunning patterns that highlight the versatility and beauty of Shetland wool.

Along with nine articles covering fascinating stories of diversity and dynamism: from indigo dyeing at Glasgow Botanic Gardens, to enterprising Victorians, and contemporary art reflecting on the past to offer new futures: the story of Scottish wool is one of innovation, resilience and enduring beauty.
